Paul Katsieris

Paul Katsieris is Principal of Katsieris Origami: Architecture & Urbanism. 

 

Paul Katsieris was born in Melbourne in 1963. He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1988. As an undergraduate, he worked in the offices of Linsday Holland Architect and Newton Hutson Architects. In 1988 he joined Hassell and commenced work on the detailed documentation of tall towers and commercial buildings. In 1991 he received a Greek-Australian Presidential Award to travel and to study the work of contemporary architects. On his return to Melbourne a year later, he re-joined Hassell and in 1996 became an owner and Principal of the practice. In 2000 he featured in the ABC Television documentary ‘In the mind of the Architect’. In 2010 he founded Katsieris Origami: Architecture & Urbanism. 

 

His skills and professional interests range from creative design, detailed project design, project delivery and architectural design advisory. His work has been recognised by awards and articles in Australian and international architecture journals and he has worked on the design of projects across Australia, PR China, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. He has particular expertise in the design of law courts, commercial workplaces, residential and mixed use developments and urban design.

 

He is active in architectural education; has taught Masters level design studios and has delivered guest-lectures in various architecture schools in Australia. 

 

In 2012 he was appointed by the Victorian Government Cabinet to sit on the inaugural Victorian Design Review Panel; a body administered by the Office of the Victorian Government Architect which overviews the design-quality of public and private projects across Victoria.
